Pay for your Goods with Crypto at the Brisbane Airport

Today there was an announcement at the Brisbane International Airport here in Australia. More than 20 merchants at the airport including Cafes, Fast Food, Newsagents and Souvenir shops now accept Bitcoin, ETH, LTC, Dash, BCH and NEM.

The service is available as merchants across the International terminal have installed the POS terminals provided by TravelbyBit. CEO of TravelbyBit, Caleb Yeoh stated:

“Since inception, our innovative POS system is now in 150 stores across Australia. Thousands of digital currency transactions have been made, with a collective value over $96,000. In addition to purchasing food and drinks in transit, tourists can now buy gifts, gadgets and books with digital currency at Brisbane Airport.”

Accepting digital currency payments removes the need for travel cards and associated fees when exchanging currencies and an airport seems the most logical place for this to occur.

TravelbyBit have also partnered with the NEM Foundation to boost local tourism and bring international tourists to the Queensland, Australia. The NEM Foundation promotes the use of the NEM blockchain technology platform to industries and institutions across the world.

"Innovation in blockchain technology is imperative to the success of future global companies. TravelbyBit is helping pave the way for advancement in the travel and retail sectors,” said Kristof Van de Reck, Interim President of the NEM Foundation. “We are thrilled to have them building on NEM’s platform and fostering new growth opportunities for Australia,” he said.

Mr Yeoh said “By mid August, those travellers spending the digital currency on the NEM blockchain can receive a 10% discount on their purchase thanks to the partnership between TravelbyBit, The NEM Foundation & awpl.”

So by using NEM to purchase goods at the airport you will receive a discount and not have to worry about exchange rates or fees associated with normal fiat currencies. What a fantastic way to promote the benefits of cryptocurrencies here in Australia.

That's an awesome start. Looking forward to this spreading :) And be nice if they would implement steem sometime in the near future otherwise I'll have to start thinking about buying other cryptos and the thought is kind of making my head hurt (although I was partially tempted to pick up Monero and Dash on principle XD)

goatsig

They have supported STEEM in the past. Not sure if you can still buy a coffee in the city with STEEM.

wow thats really great dude thanks for sharing with us awarness

Nice to know. Thanks!

This is great! Hopefully more and more airports pick this up and allow cryptocurrency payments. This definitely shows how great cryptocurrencies can be, since there's no need to exchange your FIAT and pay fees.

I would love to be able to spend steem there too...

Adoption! LFG! :)

Great news. i heard about TravebyBit earlier in the year. It's now coming into fruition.
