There is an old saying "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". In the context of the Dotcom Bubble we must always remember how it all started and what went wrong. During the period of 1997 to 2000 a lot of companies which had anything to do with Internet Related services experienced an increase in their valuations as venture capitalists were always present to invest in them.

Thus a number of companies which didn't even generate a single $ worth of revenue were able to raise a significant amount of capital through IPO's.

After the bubble burst in 2001 a large number of Dotcom companies filed for Bankruptcy. only about 48% of the dotcoms survived after 2004. Those that had a real world application and a business model that was sustainable survived the crash and even went beyond their peak values in 2000.

I am writing this article as I see a similar trend in the cryptocurrency market as well. People invest into cryptos just because they wanna get rich, they dont care what the business model of the company is.

The world wide web(www) the platform on which dotcoms were based is still around and very useful. Similarly the Block Chain Technology is here to stay however come crypto's may not survive that long.!
