Twitch has stopped accepting cryptocurrency payments
The popular streaming service Twitch has suspended support for paying for subscriptions using cryptocurrencies. This was noticed by one of the users of Reddit.
Twitch previously supported payment in cryptocurrencies through the mediation of the BitPay processing service, however, “removed this option in the last couple of weeks for all countries”. Some panelists said they would cancel existing subscriptions to protest the act of “negative distribution” initiated by the Amazon platform.
Earlier this week, another Reddit user reported that the developer of streaming software Streamlabs, which is actively used by the organizers of broadcasts for collecting donations, content management, etc., also stopped supporting cryptocurrency. The recently released software version does not contain the corresponding payment option.
Twitch has not yet commented on what is happening. One of the reasons for the decision of the company could be the low demand for cryptocurrency payments among its customers. A number of Reddit users stated that they didn’t even know about this feature until recent events.
For the first time, cryptocurrency support, including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum and Litecoin, was implemented on Twitch and in Streamlabs in the middle of 2018 - the latter used the services of the American Exchange Coinbase to receive payments.
