Let me tell you how,

You all know that,
GPU is very much needed for mining, right ?
Because of that, there has been an issue with GPU shortage, not to mention, the price of them has spiked too.
And that's why radio astronomers are facing problems.

Aaron Parsons

An astronomer is in the verge of discovering the first stars that formed in our Universe almost 13 billion years ago.
Can you imagine what is getting in the way of his primordial cosmic quest ?

CRYPTOCURRENCY MINING

How is it getting in his way ?

The mining craziness of cryptocurrencies like Ethereum, Bitcoin, Ripple etc. is draining the supplies of graphics cards on the market.

And that’s causing to spike the prices of the Graphics Processing Units, or GPUs.

What are GPUs ?

They are super powerful chips that can process massive amount of data. And Without them, Astronomers like Parsons can’t do their job.

Parsons said,

“I kind of rolled my eyes a little bit,” Parsons tells The Verge. “I usually think of cryptocurrency as some kind of peripheral thing, and I was surprised and a bit annoyed to discover that it’s impacting the bottom line of our telescope.”

Cryptocurrency miners need the GPUs to solve the complex mathematical problems to start new cryptocurrencies.
It’s a system that keeps the network secured. But problem is that, it has also spiked energy consumptions and has almost emptied GPUs from the market.

As per BBC news report,

The demand is so damn high that creators like AMD and Nvidia haven’t been able to keep up. That’s harming PC gamers and also scientists, like SETI researchers who are searching for Alien life.

If GPUs remain out of reach for the astronomers, radio astronomy will be much tougher, and the secret history of the Universe will forever stay just...

A Secret

Here is a question for you.

What should be done to solve this GPU problem ?

Sort:

It would be a great time for another company to get into the game of selling GPU's. Wonder if Intel has the people to make a go at it.

I know that Intel has such manpower. It's only a matter of time when Intel starts selling the GPU's..
Infact, most game maker company should start creating GPUs. Because sooner or later, they wil; have to.

Samsung is increasing production of GDDR6 significantly to arm the glut in GPUs coming and on its way.
We will still find the aliens and planets guys - only a little patience

Glad to hear that !
I knew these problems would be solved eventually !!! :)
