Vidy – A Decentralized Platform for Video Advertisement Industry

Introduction:

The online advertisement industry today is losing out the potential customers day by day. Most of the people use ad-blockers to avoid advertisements as they have no control to choose which advertisement to view. Vidy is a blockchain based project which is a decentralized video ad platform which is providing a solution to publishers and distributors. The platform incentivizes users based on the time spent for watching the ad and the publishers based on the impressions created. The publishers and users are rewarded in terms of Vidy coins and thus the advertiser can directly connect with the publisher through this platform.
Vidy will create an invisible layer which will embed the video ads inside the text page. Thus, the users have the choice to view the relevant ad while reading a text page.

Challenges:

The demand of advertisers to publish their ads is increasing day by day and publishers are unable to meet their demands due to shortage of spaces on the small screen. Advertisers also fall prey to ad frauds as they need to pay for the impressions created which is actually not seen by humans. The ad frauds take place due to the presence of middle men such as distributors.
People have developed a negative mind set towards the ads as they are getting annoying as they pop up on screen every time the user does nt wish to see it. Advertisements collect users’ data their history and online behaviour and often sell this data to earn more profits. Thus, the users are not getting any security online.

Solution:

Vidy is providing solution to all the above problems by developing a decentralized video-ad platform which will embed the video ads behind the text page. The blockchain technology will give transparency, security, and privacy for everyone. This platform consists of three layers:

• Data Layer: The data layer will store all the information of users in a smart contract thus providing them security. The stored data will be used to decide when to place an ad and where.
• Consensus Layer: This layer uses the data stored by data layer to place aa relevant for each user separately whenever they visit a web page. This is done by miners who earn Vidycoins every time they match the video ad for a user.
• Application Layer: This is the consumer facing distributor of video ads which will allow users to see the embedded ad while reading the text page. It also allows user to save, share and provide feedback thus enhancing user experience.

Patrick Colangelo - Founder and CEO
Patrick is a Harvard grad and the inventor of the Vidy Embed Layer. He was Founder & CEO of Black Diamond Capital Investors, President of the Harvard Entrepreneurship Forum, and President of the Harvard College Private Equity Group.

Matthew Lim - Co-Founder
Matthew was an Investment Banker at Credit Suisse for three years where he completed 8 IPO’s and M&A’s across Asia. At Vidy, he sealed major deals with top Asian celebrities like Jay Chou & JJ Lin, as well as tech giants such as Baidu. He is a National University of Singapore Grad with First Class Honors in Finance.

Daniel Sullivan - Strategy
Dan is a Harvard grad in Econ and Computer Science, and was an Investment Associate at Silverlake PE Group. He was the founder of the online subscription retailer Better Boyfriend, and was a venture investor at the SF angel fund JHB Partners.

Cons:
• The team members and the advisors of this project do not have experience in blockchain technology.
