Eloncity – A Renewable Solution to Get Electricity at Lower Cost

Overview:

Eloncity is a blockchain project which is decentralizing the current centralized electric grid architecture. The centralized power grids which are used to supply electricity to customer sites consists of complex transmission and distribution network. Due to this the current system is facing problems of safety, security, reliability and affordability. Eloncity is providing electricity through decentralized renewable energy resources to tackle all the problems. In this project the renewable energy resources which are available locally will be used to produce electricity and will be supplied to nearby local areas. The blockchain technology will provide an open and secure system which will store data of electricity consumption and electricity transaction in the community.

The Eloncity Model:

The Eloncity model is a decentralized renewable energy architecture which consist of following:

• The architecture consists of blockchain technology which will use to store and track the information about the energy transaction in the community. It will also be used to track the energy generation sources which will disclose whether the source is renewable energy source or a fossil fuel.
• ECT token will be used to exchange energy in the community. This token will also be used to give incentives to the users who use battery energy storage system (BESS) to store harvested renewable energy.
• Renewable energy generation sources such as solar PVs will be coupled with BESS to meet the demand of the local areas. This will eliminate the need of centralized power grids which transmit power to remote areas through complex network which are susceptible to power loss or vulnerabilities.
• Community DC power network will be used here to which will reduce the cost as the AC power services will no longer be required. Due to the DC power network the energy losses are also prevented which used to take place during the AC-DC-AC conversions. The local DC power grid will also consist of DCBus Scheduler which will take care of distributing the electricity locally.

Advantages:

Reliability:
The decentralized architecture of Eloncity provides greater reliability on its system as it consists of local solar PV arrays or windmills, and intelligent networked BESS. The BESS will optimize the energy distribution so that it can supply energy during the non-productive hours or during grid- service disruption period.

Safety:
The Eloncity model is providing more safety to people by using renewable energy resources. The fossil fuels used for electricity generation are hazardous to public health if in case any disaster happens on site such as fire, explosion, gas leakage etc.

Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emission:
The replacement of fossil fuels to generate electricity with renewable energy sources will greatly reduce the green house gas emissions into the environment. Thus, this project is also concerned about environment safety.

Andy also led Alibaba Cloud Computing Data Center Architecture team to pioneer the application of direct current (DC) power system for mega data centers in Asia. Additionally, Andy mastered the network traffic engineering at Cisco System.

Gregary has 11+ years of experience in server system solution architecture and product development. He served as Lead OCP/OCS/OPEN19 design requirements for Mega-Datacenter. He holds an MBA in Management of Technology, National Chiao Tung University; B.S. in Physics, National Taiwan University.
