Intel patent: Bitcoin Mining Hardware Accelerator
Intel publishes patent for Bitcoin SoC
Back in 2016 already Intel filed a patent called "Bitcoin Mining Hardware Accelerator" that now has been released.
This might be good news for gamers, too. GPUs could fall in price.

This SoC (System on a Chip) should drastically reduce the power consumption when mining cryptocurrencies.
In addition to CPU cores also special circuits for mining the cryptocurrency Bitcoin are available.
The corresponding optimizations are designed to reduce energy consumption by up to 35%.
According to the patent, Intel seems to plan the Bitcoin accelerator not only as a true SoC but also in terms of a MCM (Multi Chip Module).
For the Bitcoin hardware, Intel talks among other things about ASICs, DSPs and FPGAs, which can be used in all kinds of devices - from desktop PC to Notebooks and smartphones.
For Intel, bitcoin chips are not new territory. They produced for 21 INC, a crypto-mining-startup with 22-nm-ASICs.

A patent, of course, is no guarantee that we will ever see this technology being used but in this case I could imagine it's not the last time we hear about it.
