As technology becomes more dependent on automation- and internet of things takes off- it would make sense that we as individuals will become the caretakers for all these personalized networked devices. This leads one to believe that a centralized power grid will only serve to hinder progress.

I'd love to see a world where each of us can harness energy and allocate it at-will wherever its needed!
