Who will win the battle POW, POS, Masternodes?

Let’s try to find some answers, using simple words for everyone.

POW/POS/Masternode Whassat?

The first two are validation methods used to validate and record the various transactions in the blocks that will then be added to the blockchain. The third one is a little different but based on the second one.

POW = Proof Of Work = Mining

The POW refers to the method using physical hardware (GPU or CPU) made available to the network by certain person (Miners) to provide the computational power necessary to create/validate the new blocks.

Miners are rewarded for the power provided by receiving units of the currency for which they have worked by receiving a portion of the charges levied to carry out transactions.

POS = Proof Of Stake = Staking/Masternodes

The POS consists of holding a defined quantity of coins of a currency in a wallet and blocking them. After a certain delay depending on the currency that we decide to Stake (usually 24 hours), we then become a trustworthy person of the network and we can participate in the validation of the transactions creation/validation of the new blocks and we are then like for the miners rewarded for our staking by receiving a part of the charges collected to carry out the transactions.

Masternodes = Network node

The masternode which can take different names according to its currency, (Oracle, Stargate, and many others…) is nothing more and nothing less than larger scale staking with a much larger quantity of parts to block, much bigger rewards and generally requires the installation and configuration of a server connected 24h/24h with the possibility to create/validate blocks, but also to vote for future decisions made impacting the network (Masternode Governance). We become a pillar of the network through which all activities on the network will pass through.

Conclusion

In the long term, as energy is not infinite and the resources available to us are constantly diminishing, there can be no debate on which method will prevail, there is only one answer: the SOP will certainly not be for decades, but in terms of energy. Necessary for the functioning of the POW will naturally lead to its end even if it has to be in a century.
