eBTC Phishing Scam Attempting To Steal Ethereum Private Keys Before The Hard Fork. The Owner eBTC Is Trying To Steal Your Ethereum.

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

I recently participated in a air drop from eBTC. Anyone holding 1 ETH or tokens more was eligible to receive free eBTC to their wallet. I joined eBTC's group on Slack as well and I recieved a ton of eBTC tokens (which currently hold no value whatsoever). Now I am receiving a email from the eBTC Slack group moderator where they are pretending to be MyEthereumWallet (the wallet I use) prompting me to click their link, paste my private key and do a "mandatory update" in order to participate in the hard fork. Here is the scam email I received. DO NOT FALL FOR IT.

=== MYETHERWALLET UPGRADE REQUIRED ===

HARD FORK FINAL NOTICE

This message was shared to all Slack users in the hope of reaching as many Ethereum Wallet holders as possible.
Due to the Hard Fork that will be happening in the following days, all ethereum wallets require to be manually upgraded immediately, otherwise they risk being unprotected and your funds may be lost during the fork process.

Please visit https://www.myetherwallet.com/?upgrade#view-wallet-info to upgrade your wallet to latest security settings.

We decided to implement a number of changes and improvements, including higher levels of anonymous transactions, easier programming and smart contracts, and additional security in the form of masking, which will help protect users against hacking.

We are taking these measures to protect both you and our network from phishing and malicious attacks.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
