The Day I Refused to Get Paid in Bitcoin

Oh, how ignorant I was. My job at a cool little startup had begun and right around the time I was about to get my first Paycheck, my CEO at the time asked me, Which way do you want to get paid?

So that was May 11th, 2016 and I was about to get about $1200 for my first paycheck from that company. I was looking forward to it because that's a nice amount of money in my country.

I had been talking with my CEO daily and at one point he asked me:.

"Do you want to get paid with Paypal, via Bank or in Bitcoins?"

My answer to getting paid in Bitcoin was a stolid, “No.” And boy, have I regretted ever saying that word...

Even though I knew what Bitcoins were, I couldn't in my wildest dreams have envisioned the scenario that played out In August of 2017. Plus, I had some urgent needs, so I decided to go with Paypal (which was pretty fast then).

It turns out that one Bitcoin, on that day, was only worth $455.55.

I could have gotten 3 Bitcoins that day of my first paycheck. At the moment of writing this, they’re each worth $4130.98!

Today those three coins would have been worth over $12k, but hey, life goes on.
