This is the question that come to our mind when Bitcoin is been discussed considering the Tokyo-based Bitcoin exchange Mt GOX which file for bankruptcy last year after losing Bitcoin worth about $400 millions.
Ahead of Bitcoin Conference in Melbourne next week, some notable figure have spoke to CIO Australia about this emerging currency and whether or not is secured or is there need for more regulations. Juan who is also a member of Bitcoin Foundation Regulatory Affairs and Education Committee said that regulation has a lot to do to address issues like the one Tokyo-based exchange Mt GOX. He give example of recent happening among the service provider which all this he said call for proper regulation and legislation. He also said that the regulation should be internationally bases and governments need to collaborate in other to achieve this.
In the other hand Wright who is also Woking with Australian government towards accepting of virtual currency said that "regulations will not be effective in preventing of corruption of new technology and will hamper it's growth and innovation". He also said that he can't name any single regulation that has ever made anything more secure. In fact he said everything single regulation have always done the opposite.
Llanos also agree with Wright that regulations has fail in many part of the world because government of this countries fail to keep up with the new and emerging technology. And that regulations will end up hampering growth in the system.
Both speakers said that their is money laundering but not at exaggerated.
Wright in his close remarks said that about 20years ago Alta Vista was the main search engine but today Yahoo and Google has replaced it and that in the next 20years cryptocurrency will become part of our life.images (1).jpeg
