How to avoid the larger coinbase deposit / withdrawal fees when converting to and from fiat (GBP)

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

There is lots of talk across the crypto space on which exchanges to buy / sell / trade all of your various crypto currencies - but rarely does it mention returning your investment to fiat, and directly into your UK bank account.

I chose coinbase as the place to buy my crypto currency, however was initially stung by large deposit fees when transferring to coinbase from my GBP bank account. Coinbase use an EUR account therefore most U.K. Banks charge a fee for EUR payments on top of any coinbase fees. To combat these fees, I use Revolut, and specifically the EUR account, to send and receive EUR payments from coinbase, significantly cutting the fees!

How to make withdrawals with significantly less fees:

  1. Sign up for coinbase here (this is a referral URL where we could both receive $10):

  1. Use GDAX (the exchange behind coinbase) to transfer your crypto currency to EUR or USD etc.

  2. Sign up to Revolut here (referral URL again!):

  1. Activate a USD / EUR bank account

  2. Withdraw from coinbase to your Revolut account

  3. Withdraw from Revolut to your account!

I hope this helps fellow UK users withdrawing crypto! Go easy - it’s my first post!

Interesting article. These fees add up if you aren't smart!
