One of Bitcoin's Biggest Historical Turning Points Was The Demise of Silk Road in 2013. @mindhunter Discusses.steemCreated with Sketch.

It was certainly a major turning point, perhaps just due to the constant media coverage, but also because society knows that it's a legit transfer of wealth after the government would seek to shut it down. Even if it was being used for illegal means in the past, it was being used, thus it had the value transfer and user base. It was a necessary stepping stone.

I look at the darknet now and sites like Dream market and Monero is all over them. Bitcoin has vacated the premises a bit more and other more private coins have taken their place. If I were a criminal I'd hold all my assets in Monero! No wonder their daily volumes are so high!!

The criminal element wasn't ever going away and it never will. The point I was trying to make is that it was necessary to the adoption of Bitcoin. If you look throughout history at organized crime and bootlegging or money laundering, they run in parallel development to governments. We can't really judge which one is the more "righteous" because that is not up to us per say, but clearly I align myself with positive use cases. I just think the argument could and should be made that crypto currencies would probably at best still be in their infancy if not abandoned had it not been for the adoption and use by the "illegal" element of society. Who can really say what is and isn't legal in a world where the governments don't even agree on legality.

Some rapacious war mongering governments are worse than the criminals themselves. Best to have no heroes at all, rather than heroes who think they are doing good - only to deliver misery in the end!

I find that there is a lot of good philosophy in the Star Wars universe. I try to remind others that while the dark side wants to destroy the light, the light always seeks balance, not destruction of the dark. The light understands the importance of the contrast and duality of creation. Life is a paradox as is everything. To appreciate the good, the bad must exist to create perspective and retrospective discussion. The good does not exist without the bad, because the bad or good without the other is just "the way."

The yin/yang balance in perfect order. Contrasts are indeed a requirement. I always think of Agent Smith/Neo in The Matrix as well. Some hail Agent Smith as the good, as he finally helped crash a system of control beyond Neo's reach.
