Why Advertisement Bans Won't Stop The Cryptocurrency Take Over

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

News everywhere is reporting that social media giants like Twitter, Facebook and Google are banning cryptocurrency ads. To be honest, this move is warranted. Many scammers have seen fit to utilize these ads to put phishing scams right at the top of search pages effectively scamming unknowing crypto newbies out of their coins! However, some seem to think that this is another signal to the end of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies everywhere somehow. The problem with that is nobody ever cared about these ads anyway.

Cryptocurrency has never been dependent on "google ads" or any other type of ads. Instead opting to find their way through other mediums such as word of mouth, private advertisements on related websites such as bitcointalk, or referral style advertising campaigns which are much more effective anyway. Nobody likes being advertised to. Nobody wants to invest in your ICO, because they saw an ad about it on Facebook. So, how does a project find investors?

Let's take a look at how DeepOnion does it. This coin has managed to grow exponentially in its short life time. Partly in thanks to a massive airdrop campaign organized by the founders. This campaign is heavily advertised in the signatures of Bitcointalk forum users, arguably the best place on the internet for finding out about new coins or cryptocyrrency in general. The result is over 900 weekly airdrop recipients, an all time high coin price of around $18+, and a bitcointalk thread that is over 800 pages long. That's impressive progress in such a short time.

An airdrop is nice, but that's not enough. How does DeepOnion keep their thousands of forum members coming back? By giving them even more after they've been hooked. A quick visit to the DeepOnion forums reveals an active, welcoming community full of contests, bounties and activities to keep potential holders busy. These efforts have been fruitful, and no social media ads needed.

If a cryptocurrency was going to "purchase an ad" it would most likely be through influencer marketing instead of PPC ads or social media advertisements which are often abysmal in return rate. Reddit hasn't banned crypto ads, but their ROI is so horrible nobody would use them anyway. No doubt that Youtubers drive more traffic to coins and ICOs than any search ads could ever hope to. In fact, DeepOnion plans to hire a "public hero" to champion their coin soon, but exactly who that is still is not known. One thing is for sure though, everyone is going to click "skip" on those stupid Google ads we just got banned from to watch the video.

I do not think the Ad banning is very significant. If fact, with (existing) regulations creeping up to the cryptocurrency sphere, it is only logical that ads are scrutinised now that the regulator machine is closing in.

It does not negate the potential for cryptocurrencies.

The ad banning is actually a good thing. It should take some of the money going to scammers and dumb ICO's. HODL strong!! Good post and I actually read it! lol

Thanks, even though there's no way you had time to read it already.
