BitGuild - Blockchain Gaming Platform Let's You Own Your Inventory
What is BitGuild?
BitGuild is a gaming platform that will allow gamers to have true ownership of their characters and assets.
What does this really mean?
Right now a gamer does not really own anything game related, sometimes they do not even own the game (i.e. Steam). If you play World of Warcraft and have spent countless hours on your Tauren Shaman named Zericote you become attached to the character.
In the current gaming environment, the only way for you to benefit from the time dedicated to that character is for you to continue playing with it in that game. What if you want to play another game? What if you really like your enchanted armor? Basically, too bad because it's stuck in WoW for all of eternity.
With BitGuild both your character and your assets (inventory, gold, etc) are tokenized and belong to the gamer and not the game. These assets are not stored on a centralized server or even your own computer but instead, their ownership is staked onto the blockchain
So I can use my character in a different game?
BitGuild is building a platform for game designers to build upon. The games will allow characters and assets to be compatible. A sword in one game will be a sword in another. If you have 1000 gold you will always have 1000 gold.
The graphical representation of an item is not stored on the blockchain, only the owner. In other words, a sword in a steampunk game might look very different than the same sword in a pirate game.
Are there other benefits to tokenized assets?
Yes, there are many great benefits including the ability to buy, sell and trade your assets with other users. There is nothing worse than grinding through levels and ending a quest with a piece of equipment that you don't need. BitGuild allows you to still benefit from this by using it to acquire items you like.
Additional benefits include the use of one universal currency for the exchange of assets between all games and all geographic locations. This wil be accomplished through the native BitGuild currency Platinum (PLAT).
What does the ecosystem look like?
The BitGuild ecosystem is comprised of five main components.
Game Platform
This is where all the games are presented. This is similar to your current Steam software and will dispaly games, achievements, accounts and levels attained.
All games on the game platform have to meet a set of requirements that include:
- Utilize blockchain and smart contracts
- Accept PLAT as the only payment option
- Tokenize game assets and store them in players wallets
- Allow for buying, selling and trading of in-game assets
- Meet certain content standards.
Achievements and levels are both in-game reward systems for playing games and holding PLAT tokens.
BitGuild Wallet
This wallet is specific to BitGuild and will contain all assets belonging to a player. The wallet will also provide visual display of each asset, making it much different than a traditional cryptocurrency wallet.
BitGuild Virtual Asset Exchange
This is exactly what it sounds like, an exchange for all in-game assets. It's like the ultimate auction house for all games at once.
BitGuild Design House
This is a place for game developers to crowdfund their games in return for virtual assets.
Game developers can also set bounties in PLAT for the design of virtual assets by the community.
BitGuild The Game
This will be like Second Life on the blockchain. It seems that this will be the proof of working concept and will allow players to mine, craft, and trade assets.
What does the roadmap look like?
The roadmap looks realistic and has achievable milestones. Some of the key dates include:
- Q2 2018: Launch BitGuild The Game (Beta)
- Q4 2018: Launch 4-6 blockchain games and design house beta.
- Q3-4 2019: Launch 15-30 games on the platform.
What's up with the team and partners?
The team has a very strong background in the game sector with CEO Jared Psigoda being the cofounder and CEO of Reality Squared Games and Livestar.
The COO Curtis Chiu has worked as a product manager at Kabam, Sega, Konami, and Outspark and has been involved with huge games including the iphone hit Kingdoms of Camelot.
The advisor group is composed of a strong core of ventrue capitalists and investors including Brock Pierce, Leo Wang and Yi Shi.
Justin Sun of Tron is another key advisor. His role with the team has recently been strenghted with the announced partnership between Tron and Bitguild.
What about the token sale?
The token sale is currently live and requires that you whitelist. The price of PLAT is 80,000 for 1 ETH. There is a minimum purchase of .5 ETH and a maximum of 1500 ETH. Bonuses are based on the quantity of PLAT purchased beginning at 5% for >=5ETH and topping out at 15% for>=500 ETH.
The hardcap for the token sale is 14,062.5 ETH and the softcap is 5000 ETH which has already been reached.
There will be a total supply of 10 billion PLAT. Of this total supply 45% will be offered for sale in the private and public sales. 25% of the tokens will be held in the BitGuild Foundation reserve with a 2 year vesting period. 10% of tokens are being given to contributors and advisors with an undisclosed lockup. The final 20% will be given to the team and founders, 1/5 of this total will be made available immediatedly and each additional 1/5 will be released every six months.
Overall
This is a great use case for blockchain tech. Tokenizing assets and allows players to trade between themselves will create a huge new economy inside the gaming platform.
