Decentralized Autonomous Vehicles (DAV):All you need to know

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago

Autonomous cars are unmanned vehicles capable of navigating and sensing their driving environment conditions without any human aid. Yess ...! You are thinking right, all one has to do is get onto the driving seat and tell it where to go, you can then relax and do everything you were not allowed to do when you were once a driver. What about transportation of goods? You must have heard of Dominos reaching out its customers through drones, the pizza right on time, no traffic no delays. These unmanned vehicles have become the major players in transportation.

TRACING THE ROOTS

The history of self-driven cars dates back to 1977, when a mechanical engineering lab in Japan introduced the first un-manned vehicle. Then on there has been turning back, companies have been competing to develop new prototypes which are better and faster than their counterparts. In 2015 USA had allowed testing the vehicles on public roads in some of its states including Washington DC. The early stage vehicles were all automated at Level 0, which included issuing warnings and momentary intervention only. Later on, vehicles automated to Level 3 were introduced which provided partial automation, but still required a human in the driver's seat in case any emergency situation arose. Now, major vehicle manufacturers like Audi, Mercedes Benz and many others such as Tesla, Google, Uber are consistently engaged in research and testing activities so as to reach the Level 5 automation, which enables vehicles to provide full time dynamic driving capabilities under all road and environmental conditions without the need of any human intervention at all.

PUBLIC REACTION

There have been mixed feelings about these vehicles. The most prominent being the resistance from drivers who will eventually lose their jobs when these autonomous cars hit the road. But there also has been rising supporters, who feel that these vehicles can greatly reduce the number of road accidents, the main causes of which are human negligence and carelessness. Despite of all these, the possibility of your next Uber car not having a driver, is very close.

Now, what is the next step needed to take this technology to a higher level. How about Decentralization? So that anybody can make use of these vehicles according to their needs, without the need of any regulator. This is where DAV, a computer network that brings together users and owners of autonomous vehicles on a single platform, comes into the lime light.

DAV

It is a block-chain based open software technology that aims in bringing together the members of the new transportation economy, the autonomous vehicles, the service providers and the users. Individuals and enterprises can rent their autonomous vehicles, open up charging stations in their garage, create parking lots for the AV's not operating, extend repair and cleaning services etc. And all these services happen through the exchange of DAV tokens.

The whole thing revolves around three main technology components. Decentralized Discovery, Decentralized Communication and Trustless Cooperation.

DECENTRALIZED DISCOVERY: This facility allows the AV's to discover each other, clients and service providers. This node discovery is implemented using a peer- to- peer protocol.

DECENTRALIZED COMMUNICATION: It facilitates operations within the DAV networks. It is divided into two groups, on-block chain communications and off-block chain communications.

TRUSTLESS COOPERATION: Cooperation is achieved between the buyers and sellers through smart contracts. These contracts are directly tied to the DAV tokens.

So, if you have an autonomous car or drone, sitting idle in your home get ready to rent it to others in return for tokens. For those who do not own any AV's, the next time you have your girlfriend's or boyfriend's birthday be ready to surprise them by having the early morning bouquet of red roses delivered by a DAV'S drone, I am sure they will love it!
