You mention ledger wallet here and that is going to be that best way to store Bitcoins or altcoins (also trezor works great too, I have both). During the Bitcoin Cash fork Ledger did a great job getting the coins into our hands with relative ease.

Their documentation was spot on. As long as you followed the steps and did not jump ahead or skip any parts your had your Bitcoin Cash in a matter of minutes. I can see the same happening with Bitcoin Gold.

Of course there will be a firmware update to accommodate this so everyone who is using a hardware wallet should find their seed phrase since it will need to be reentered in order to add your keypair back onto the devices after updating.
