Hello steemians, Have you ever come across the term cryptocurrency airdrop and wondered what it meant? Well, it’s nothing like the image you probably have in your head of an airplane dropping coins from the sky.
What is really an airdrop?
For your own information,the term air drop has become very popular in the context of cryptocurrencies. But, many of the people who trade in cryptocurrencies do not understand what is the meaning of air drop.
so for those who are still green about an airdrop, It is an event where a blockchain project distributes free tokens to the crypto community for helping them share the word of their cryptocurrency to build a community around it and let it grow due to the fact that new cryptocurrencies usually start at values that are close to nothing, and this is usually because they have a zero user base. And for these new currencies to have any meaning, they need to have an established network of people willing to send and receive it
It's like a gift
Yeah it can be closely related to free gifts or rewards someone receives from the miners of a particular cryptocurrency in return when they hodl (hold) that particular type of currency over a period of time. Again, the currency received via airdrop could be the same currency that one might be holding or a currency which has come up due to fork in the existing cryptocurrency
