Cloud Mining vs Browser Mining

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

Hello once again!

Today I would like to compare 2 Bitcoin Mining services that are available and how they stack up. The 2 categories are Cloud Mining and Browser Based Mining.

First up is Hashflare

First and foremost, Cloud Mining has a fairly bad reputation and is considered either a scam or not worth it in the long run. So I chose one of the most reputable (and available) services that I could find.

Not being super well off or having a large sum of Bitcoin, I purchased 0.1 TH/s as a test, this is already 10 times faster than my GekkoScience Rev2 that I purchased about a year back. So I was expecting some good results.

With my USB Miner I roughly got about 120 Satoshi per day in most mining pools that I participated in. After 1 day on Hashflare I received a payout of 613 Satoshi. This is not nearly 10x the amount that was earned with actual hardware. But you might be thinking that 613 over the 365 day period would be a nice hefty chunk at the end of the contract. It would actually total 0.00223745 or roughly $16.50 in current value.

How much did I spend on 0.1 TH/s? About 0.001 BTC, so it basically doubles what you invest right?

Wrong, there is one major thing that I was not expecting to be as bad as it was, and that is the maintenance fees. From that first days 613 Satoshi profit? They took 466 of it, so I actually only ended up with 147 Satoshi. That is a 76% fee!

Rerunning the numbers after taking the fee out, I wind up with a whopping 0.00053655 Annual income or just slightly over half of what I put in. Now this may be more worth it if you purchase enough Hashrate to payout enough everyday to reinvest in to buying more hashrate, but at it's current rate for me it will take me 72 days just to buy another 10 GH/s so this in my mind is a complete wash.

Next up is CryptoTab

Browser Mining has it's Pros and Cons. A major Blemish on this services reputation is Embedding a miner in to websites to make people unknowingly mine for them, also known as Cryptojacking.

This service does not have an embeddable miner and is strictly just a Chrome plugin that mines Bitcoin while you have Chrome Open. They also released their own Web Browser based off of Chrome that claims to Boost your mining speed by up to 8 times. Of course your results will vary heavily depending on which type of Processor you have, but I currently have it running on 2 different computers in my house.

My laptop, which I just set up about 2 days ago, is mining at 15H/s and has earned about 450 Satoshi.

My desktop has been running this for longer and it is much more powerful than the laptop, so my profit is higher. So far I have earned about 17,000 Satoshi, 200 of which was earned just while typing out this article. My hashrate on it was originally around 60-85H/s, but when I downloaded their separate Web Browser it jumped up to a range of 200-250H/s.

So in closing my thoughts between the 2 are, if you have a lot of money, Hashflare might be the way to go since it will not put a strain on your computer. If money is something that you do not have a lot of, stick to things like CryptoTab and Faucets.

Thanks for reading and Happy Earning!
