Zcash sets the roadmap for Blockchain updates in 2018

According to a roadmap published today, the Zcash development team is planning a series of network updates for next year.

Writing on the Zcash blog, co-founder Zooko Wilcox and CTO Nathan Wilcox detailed two important improvements: "Sobreviento" and "Plantón", of which the last one was discussed in a roadmap update earlier this year. According to the publication, the goal of next year's updates is "to further improve the performance, security and ease of use of Zcash".

The first update, Overwinter, is scheduled to go live in June 2018. According to the publication, the aim of this project is to "make future network updates more secure for users, even in the case of containment. of the government". Although the details are light today, the Wilcox said that future details about the update would be published on the official blog.

The second update, which takes place in September, focuses on its "Sapling" protocol, which aims to increase the capacity of cryptocurrency-oriented transactions aimed at privacy.

"Sapling will activate the protocol update, providing orders of magnitude improvements in both time and memory for shielded transactions, making mobile wallet support feasible. In addition, Sapling will rely on Powers of Tau's open engagement parameter configuration, greatly mitigating concerns about risks for zkSNARK applications (including other applications outside of Zcash). "

The publication concludes by suggesting that other improvements may be in sight, including the functionality for intelligent contracts and the investigation of the participation test algorithm.

"The possibilities include scalability enhancements to allow virtually unlimited amounts of transactions, novel consensus algorithms such as stake testing and scalable private smart contracts," they wrote.
