Initial Investment

My husband @shai-hulud have been talking about crypto currency on and off for a few years now. As in he would mention the price of #bitcoin in passing and I would say sure go buy some and then it would slip his mind or fall into the too hard basket until the price rose and he would mention it again and to my frustration now the same story would play out.

It was only when #bitcoin hit over $5,000 and I knew that we hadn't invested that first time when it was at a mere $50 that I decided to take a more assertive stance with my phlegmatic husband and push him until our required accounts were set up. It was the most painful 48 hours of my life watching the prices of the #altcoins I had decided to invest in rise before my eyes an not be able to purchase them.

We had set an investment amount that we were comfortable to lose if all went bust but that didn't stop the anxious week that followed our initial investment. We were #coinspot junkies, checking our wallet balances every other minute fascinated with the ups and the downs of the market. We invest in 23 different coins/tokens overall, no particular reason, we just wanted to spread our risk as I have never been an "All eggs in one basket" kinda girl.

Why No Steem?

Although we did research pre deciding where to allocate our investment, there are 100's of altcoins out there and we didn't have the time to delve into as many as we would have liked. This was primarily due to my impatience after losing out on what I thought was a crypto millionaire opportunity with BTC.

This didn't stop us from looking into other altcoins after our initial investment and this is how we stumbled onto Steemit and the wonderful community of Steemians. I have been part of this community for 16 days, active about 13 of those I think. To date and going forward I intend to convert all author & curation SBD earned into #Steem and then POWER UP Steem Power to increase my voting power and pass the #upvote on.

I believe in the community and the crypto world everyone together is creating. Its an exciting place and time to live in and I love that we can reinvest in the community that invests in us. SHARE THE LOVE!

Wild Swings & Roundabouts

I wasn't joking about the addictive almost fanatical behavior of checking the balances at every spare moment. The wild movements of the market at the beginning used to stress me. Now most days I check each morning & evening to see how its travelling and I hope to reduce this to once a week. We are in it for the long haul and looking at it microscopically it not healthy unless you intend to be a trader. Even then knowing when to BUY/SELL is an art within itself, one I am not yet ready to invest enough time in learning. Especially when I have so much awesome Steemit knowledge to learn.

To show you just how volatile the market can be and the changes within our top five valued coins, I drafted the below table. Whats interesting to note is the changes in the last 24 hours, from last night to this morning and then again this evening. We hit an all time high last night as I am guessing anyone investing across the board would have experienced, and also saw a change in our top five when #Verge (XVG) rose over 2000%. Only to see the total value plummet this morning. and then recover again this evening although still 11% lower overall value than last night.

Actually scrap that I just checked it now and its back to what is was this morning, that is how fast it changes, I only started this an hour ago.

Like I said anxiety provoking right. The only thing that keeps the excitement and disappointment at bay when we encounter these swings and roundabouts is the knowledge that we are in it for the long haul and over time the only way is up!

I'm not naive, some will rise, some will fall. I have heard of the dot.com bubble/crash/collapse. But out of that came some major players that continue to dominate the market 20 years on, ever heard of Google.

I have no doubt the same will happen with #crypto and can only hope that:

1. We got in early enough,
2. We invested enough, &
3. We picked the right things to invest in.
