I saw an announcement about Bitcoin Dark using Komodo and both prices skyrocketed yesterday. If BTCD will be switching over, why would the price rise?

BitcoinDark Devs have stopped their project and decided to support Komodo... there is also a swap of 1 BTCD for 50 KMD ... and Komodo is going to have a major announcement in 4 days so these are the reasons for the rise in price
