First when it comes to Coin ang Hari jan ay si BTC, while the others are called AltCoins. Sa coins there are different types too; there are coins na pre-mined like XRP na centralized and controlled by entitiess such as developers, banks and etc. kung saan in contrast xa sa original design ni BTC. Well, BTC is actually an open source that's why institutions, organisations, developers, and even individual people can create their own coins; kaya nagkakaron din ng fork (BTC Cash, SV, Gold and even Tomatoes--lol, kidding pro malay mo sa 7K + baka meron na ngang existing). Coins have diff algo, this actually covers the security and features of a coin especially when it comes to mining (POW). While others uses POS (Some calls this as Staking while others are Minting--the concept is, you can earn % of coins you are holding or staking, with required numbers of assets to qualify and act as a node or validator in the network). Nowadays, staking evolve already where you can do some in your private wallets or even Exchanges that offers this features.

On the other hand, Tokens are actually assets that are normally but not limited to smart contracts, like eos, trx and more. Most of them are ICO's and they are associated to ETH unless they separate and make they own blockchian/mainnet. (UPDATED: Both EOS and TRX have now build their own ecosystem).
