How did a few of the top cryptos do over the course of ~1 year? I looked at a few of the charts by percentage gain from the start of 2017 to today. There are quite a few unbelievable gains...

Bitcoin, started 2017 at $903, last $17527, 1633%

What do you expect for the top cryptos in 2018? One can say that 2017 was a year of discovery and 2018 will be the year of adoption.

Can those gains be beat? I'm not sure regarding the high marketcap cryptos as they would need to have a major parabolic year. Those are gains that the conventional market takes decades to produce. (Like GE, General Electric with the dividends)

I do think that specific 'alt' coins will be able to produce gains similar to what is seen above.

It’s hard to believe how most of the people could have missed it. Now, most are all over crypto.
Resteemed!

Not much was mentioned in 2016 about Bitcoin on mainstream media. I wish that I started earlier, especially after looking at those gains...

The market was great last year and some of my friends have grumbled that they "missed out" on the crypto market, but the point is that they haven't missed anything except for the beginning of a still emerging market. Being analyst in the IT world I look at things from a slightly different perspective than a casual investor. Behind these cryptocurrencies are actual business models and brilliant strategies that are the future of business and computing. What we saw in 2017 is only the beginning!

The crypto market made it to mainstream media last year and received a lot of exposure. While BTC has been around since 2009, the 'alt' coin market just got going in the 2nd half of 2016. There is still a lot of room to run to the upside for sure.

Wow, I wish I bought it before like everyone else wishes.

Yup, if only we had some good tips in late 2016

Which platform would you recommend for purchasing cryptocurrency?

It may depend upon which country your in. You can go to coinmarketcap.com, choose a specific crypto and then just click on the markets tab. This will show you the exchanges/platform they are trading on.

Most people in the U.S. start out on coinbase, but then change

Great thanks for the quick response! will check!

Starting to think I should be stock piling Ethereum and Litecoin this year, Ethereum looks braced for 5k and Litecoin between 2-4k this year would be very realistic numbers.

Yeah, those 2 may have better returns than BTC. I also think that due to the governments tracking of BTC transactions and the high transfer fees, people will roll to other coins.

Bingo. BTC down to like 35-40% share of all cryptocurrency market capitalization. Lowest of all time I believe.
