WARNING! Scam attack on Steemit!
This post describes a SCAM attack on Steemit.
On this opportunity I would like to share this post to warn you about some fake users on Steemit who intend to steal your password. I would like to clarify that this attack is perpetrated by a malicious user not the Steemit platform. This type of attack is very common on the Internet, however on Steemit it takes a special relevance because if the attacker takes control of your account, then you could lose all your funds. Remember the most important rule on Steemit: "Do not lose your password!”. It is not possible to recover your account if someone else steals your private information.
The attack works as follows:
Image modify from pixabay.com
1.-The attacker publishes an attractive title on Steemit. Within the article it adds a link to an external web page. On the first image, the attacker incites the visitor to consult a link to read the full article.
2.-In this fake web page, the attacker tries to deceive the visitor by making him believe that this is a Web site that belongs to Steemit. As you can see in the image, the link of the site has a similar -but malicious- URL address: steemiit.00webhostapp.com. This web site is a fake, DO NOT TRUST THIS WEB PAGE! In the image you can also see that the site runs from a host server called: webhostapp.
3.-The third part of the attack consists on to make the visitor believe that its password is required to re-enter the system and read the article. Important: For no reason disclose your password on this site. Remember, the only valid domain is https://steemit.com
Fake profile picture:
Blockchain-based systems as Steemit are completely safe from the technological perspective. This does not prevent some people from wanting to take advantage of users who have limited technical knowledge or reveal their data by distraction.
I hope you can share this information and prevent other Steemit users from falling into this type of traps. Steemit is an extraordinary platform and it is up to all of us to detect and denounce users who misuse it.
Best regards!
