The only thing constant is change. Over the years technology has evolved tremendously, we see its applications in artificial intelligence (voice and face recognition, self-driving cars etc), blockchain technology etc.
At the same time, the health sector has evolved tremendously too, with platforms coming up with new technologies or techniques which will utilize;
a. Blockchain technology, owing to its outstanding features such as transparency, decentralized database (which ensure data security),
b. Artificial intelligence, which helps to make work easier, and
c. Genomics (DNA Sequence).
A proper understanding of these three features has the power to transform the health sector beyond imaginations.
Most projects always utilize the first two (blockchain and AI), but a different project or platform with the right tools, knowledge and team aims to combine the three so as to bring tremendous change to the healthcare system. It is no other project than SHIVOM.

WHAT IS SHIVOM?

Shivom is a platform with the aim of developing the largest genomic datahub and healthcare services in the world with the aid of blockchain technology. Shivom aims to achieve this by utilizing three convergent technologies namely;

Blockchain is a sure bet for transparency, data security and privacy which is lacking in a centralized database, thus it's importance in Shivom's platform.
In the healthcare system, blockchain technology is used to securely encrypt transactions so that only the parties involved can access it, and this is achieved through a private key. That is to say, a patient has the opportunity to encode, save or encrypt his/her genome with a private key, thereby granting only him access to it.

PROBLEMS IN THE CURRENT HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS AND SOLUTIONS OFFERED BY SHIVOM

CASE 1.
Problem: Issues with the saving of healthcare data.
Healthcare data being isolated, saved in different formats and database limits it's full utilization. With genomic data not being saved properly limits healthcare professionals from efficiently performing research and drug development.
Solution: Shivom aims to solve this by creating a platform which will enable individuals and healthcare centres to share their genomic data thereby making it easily accessible for use in drug development, research etc which in the long run will reduce the cost of healthcare services.

CASE 2.
Problem: The current healthcare services have issues such as poor economy of scale, very costly and the available data is isolated. These data isolation leads to different categories of patients, alterations or variations in genome database etc.
Solution: Shivom believes that by sequencing the genome of patient with different diseases and from different locations will enhance clinical trials outcome, also by combining these sequenced genomes with available health records, researchers and clinicians will have the opportunity to access different results thereby knowing the causes of diseases as well as coming up with a cure.

Problem: Centralized database is prone to issues such as cyber attacks, data breach and also at each point of failure, leads to data being unavailable.
Solution: Shivom believes that with new technologies such as blockchain technology, patients data will be secured, there will be transparency, no data breach etc. The new technology (blockchain) will ensure trust owing to its outstanding feature of being easily accessible to anyone, easy and unique auditing feature, always available for stakeholders as well as users and at the same time allowing for easy modification (addition) of genome data.
