These are the websites Amazon purchased recently. At first I didn't think much of it. It's very hard to speculate what Amazon is doing here, if anything. Then, last night on Twitch, it hit me: Amazon recently acquired twitch and set up an advertising/tipping system based on "cheer bits". One cheer bit is worth one cent. You can acquire cheers by purchasing them or watching ads (which will give you between 5-100 cheer points per ad). You then support your favorite Twitch streamers by cheering them so they can get paid and keep creating the content their fans want to see.

If Amazon is making a move like the Golem Network, toward smart contract Ethereum tokens, the value of Ethereum and cheer points could spike dramatically. Seriously, Etherium could go from $700-$800 a coin to more than Bitcoin. I for one will be holding on to all the cheer points I can get just in case there is some kind of profitable transition from cheer points to the new currency. Then again, with Ethereum's smart contract token technology, Amazon could likely programmatically implement a seamless
transition to a new currency 1:1, where cheers would simply be replaced with the new currency valued at $0.01 to start. I think if Amazon was so inclined they could also maintain that value with some kind of dynamic inflation/deflation model.

The ramifications of a move like this would be colossal. If any megacorp like Amazon buys into a cryptocurrency that isn't Bitcoin, it will validate altcoins for a big percentage of the population. Right now the average Joe has about zero faith in altcoins and only a little faith in Bitcoin. A push in this direction would likely make a ton of other altcoins spike in value in addition to Ethereum.

It's important to note that this altcoin would not be confined to Twitch. It would be Amazon's currency for everything. A megacorporation would have it's own currency. What an amazing and terrifying thought; truly Orwellian.
