RE: John Oliver does a full episode on Cryptocurrencies (and I have a cameo)

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

I thought this (Oliver's report) was pretty dumbed down, mainstream, a wonderbread-for-the-brain sort of look into the world of crypto. He didn't do a great job clearly separating blockchain from decentralization and as such, people who rely on comedians for their information (which is sadly many) stand a good chance to be tricked into the crypto lie that centralized powers will be (and already are starting to) selling.

Noobs to the space really need to be clear about what the origins of crypto are all about. Decentralization, immutability, censorship resistance, etc. If the lame-o talking heads keep diluting the revolutionary message that crypto brings, then is possible to imagine a world where people are tricked and hop onto the centralized bandwagon (FEDcoin, Amazoncoin, FBcoin, etc) and continue to perpetuate the bullshit money system we are trapped in currently.

Of course this is MHO. But, five years from now it would be depressing to see the whole crypto movement coopted into a new form of digital fiat and nothing really changes in the world. Goofy comedians who are essentially mouthpieces for the status quo are not going to help us realize a better world because honestly, they don't stand to gain much from it (ie: centralized ad revenue, centralized financing, centralized media and on and on...these are their means of profit and control).

(And I'm not just an irritated EOS holder...I don't hold EOS)

I think it would be great if more people are introduced to cryptos by way of James Corbett's message. For anyone interested:
