British University Using Blockchain On National Archives
The British University of Surrey has began securing digital government records of national video archives around the world against tampering using blockchain technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Through one of the university’s units, the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) and the government’s Open Data Institute and the National Archives, have developed a highly secure, decentralized computer vision and blockchain based system dubbed as the ARCHANGEL.
According to Professor John Collomosse, project lead at the University of Surrey, the system provides digital fingerprinting for archives, making it possible to verify their authenticity.
He further adds that anyone can check and add records but no one can change them making the integrity of the historical record intact.
The system is reported to have began trials by the national government archives of the U.K, Estonia, Norway and Australia, as well as the National Archives and Records Administration in the U.S.
