Introducing: Lunyr!

What is Lunyr?

Lunyr is a decentralised knowledge sharing platform which is in development that rewards people for submitting and peer reviewing articles. You might be thinking this sounds a lot like Steemit but I assure you it is quite different! Steemit is a blogging platform whereas Lunyr is an information and learning platform! I can assure you that you won't be seeing people posting pictures of cats and arbitrary musings on Lunyr.

Lunyr allows users to submit articles for peer review and should it pass this process, then and only then is the article published. In a way, Lunyr is to Wikipedia as Steemit is to Facebook, only Lunyr is much more academic then Wikipedia. This level of incentivised peer review and focus based publishing means that the information on the platform will be much more likely to be correct.

The following is a quote from the Lunyr website:

"Lunyr is an Ethereum-based decentralized world knowledge base which rewards users with app tokens for peer-reviewing and contributing information. We aim to be the starting point long-term vision is to develop a knowledge base API that developers can use to create next generation decentralized applications in Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, and more."

Both publishing and peer reviewing articles will be rewarded in CBN, LUN, and HNR via smart contract although there is no way of knowing how lucrative it will be just yet.

Sounds good, should I be stocking up on Lunyr coins then?

I don't know is the simple answer to that, it depends on how much you believe in the project. I personally might invest a bit, but I definately won't be dumping thousands into it. Currently the price of Lunyr tokens is $14.65 after exploding in price on the 10th of August 2017. I would recommend against buying now as the trajectory is clearly on a downward trend however it might be worth keeping an eye out and buying when the price stabilised.

Conclusion

I like the premise of Lunyr and the idea that in the future if I want to know the answer to a question I can just look it up on a decentralised platform, knowing that the info I read has been double checked through peer review. No release date has yet been released by the devs but when I find out I will of course update you. Keep an eye on this one, it could one day be a massive platform for both crypto enthusiasts and for the general public.

Happy Investing!

I've been looking at Lunyr because of the spectaculair gains it has had, but I am not sold on the concept. While I think it's a superb idea to have a decentralized version of Wikipedia, I just don't really see this becoming a huge coin soon. It just seems less exciting than many other coins. I am not sure the time is ripe yet for a decentralized wikipedia. There are many bugs to filter out in Steemit with abuse and financial-motivated posting. In an encyclopedia this will be a bigger issue, since the focus would be on truthful articles. All these doubts, and so many other coins that I can fully get behind, make it so I didn't invest in it (yet)

Yeah I agree somewhat. However I do think that reducing it to a decentralised Wikipedia is perhaps not fully analogous (yes I know it kinda did it in my post lol). I think the peer review element prior to publishing is a big deal. On Wikipedia I can create a page with complete nonsense on it and it could be viewed by many people before being taken down or edited, this is much more unlikely to happen on Lunyr. That said, I agree that buying into the tokens is a risk and if I do buy in, it will probably be under 50 dollars worth.

Ha, that's exactly what I do with cryptocurrencies like these. I put at most $100 in, just in case. At worst it'll drop to $50 and meh.. with the gains elsewhere, who cares about that. And if it skyrockets, well you'll know on time because you'll be watching the price since you put some money in it! Can always put in more then.

The problem especially with Lunyr that I see, and TBH also with Steemit/STEEM, is that I am still not entirely sure if this posting/upvoting for profit model really works in the long term. I have this feeling that this 'business model' still has some evolution to go through before it finds it's final form. I feel a lot more secure investing in platforms or currencies where the value is easily pinpointed.

Well I think in Steem's case, the issue we are experiencing is a simple case of coin inflation exceeding demand. If we were to double the amount of users who either actively invest or simple HODL, the price would shoot up. I do agree with your general point though, even though I have invested a few thousand into steemit.

Any idea when the platform goes live?

No, sorry. To my knowledge the devs have not released that information yet.

Looks like an interesting project.

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by cryptoviking from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, someguy123, neoxian, followbtcnews/crimsonclad, and netuoso. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows and creating a social network. Please find us in the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

That brings up questions of how the peer review would work. For instance, we have human, bot, and combo voting blocks on SteemIt now.

For someone like me who is interested in reading and writing academic articles, I think this will be a great platform. But will it work in the long run?

I think it will tank as so many other platforms have tanked. People like Wikipedia and nothing else seems to work. Google tried to create their own Wikipedia with Knol and paid its writer hundreds of thousands of dollars, and it tanked within a short time.

I am interested in joining this platform, can you tell me how to get signup?

There is no sign up currently, but you can subscribe to their news letter and updates on their website
