These days it’s impossible to imagine our lives without the Internet. Online services allow us to communicate with friends, pay and get paid, store files, make documents and presentations, find jobs, open businesses, and so on. Our whole lives are reflected online, and few people think how dangerous it can be. Search engines and social networks notice each our move and click, gathering data for advertisement campaigns. Hackers use more and more sophisticated methods to break into user’s accounts to steal money and private information. Governments track and store all the Internet activity and keep it indefinitely on their servers, which are constantly get hacked.

This situation combined with the people wishing to communicate privately without third-parties eavesdropping on their conversations gave rise to a number of services, messaging, voice and video calling apps that use encryption to protect online communications.

One of such services is FortKnoxter – a platform created by a group of Danish cybersecurity experts that combines a whole number of services including mail, chats, voice calls, group conferences, screen sharing, and a cloud file storage. All its services are protected by the encryption algorithms.

What is particularly interesting about FortKnoxter that it also uses blockchain technology. First, blockchain is used to store user’s digital identities. Due to how blockchain works, it makes it virtually impossible for potential attackers to steal user’s accounts or tamper with user’s identity information. Another and even more curious application of blockchain technology is in the platform’s distributed peer-to-peer storage system. FortKnoxter keeps all of its information in a decentralized storage infrastructure that apart from company’s own servers includes the disk space provided by users willing to rent their hard disks. This is organized through the process similar to cryptocurrency mining, only instead of users providing their CPUs to mine blocks, they allow the platform to utilize the space on their hard disks. Similarly in exchange for their contribution they earn FKX tokens that can be used to purchase the services of the FortKnoxter platform.

FortKnoxter is planning to conduct a token sale in February 2018 offering 135 million of FKX tokens for sale. With the help of these additional investments the company will continue to develop, pursuing its noble goal – making the world a safer place.
