Bitcoin Diamond Warning: Out to Steal The Real BTC

Bitcoin Diamond claims to have a main net up and running since December 21- but splitting the coins is still impossible.

Bitcoin Diamond claims to run its main net for a few days now. But due to the bitter experience with Bitcoin Gold, there are warnings when it comes to this project- as serious losses of Bitcoin may occur. The best advice is not to attempt to receive Bitcoin Diamond coins now, as there are three main ways that scams or technical glitches may siphon away real BTC:

  1. No Replay Protection. Like Bitcoin Gold, Bitcoin Diamond has launched the main net without replay protection- so a transaction of Bitcoin Diamond may, in theory, affect the Bitcoin balance as well. The issue was raised in the past day on the finally released GitHub for the project's code.

  2. Dubious Exchanges: Bitcoin Diamond is still not widely traded. Avoid sending Bitcoin to small exchanges, in exchange for seeing your Bitcoin Diamond balance. No one knows the withdrawal policy for the exchanges, so giving them access to actual BTC coins may be a recipe for disaster, if the site closes. Beware of Exx.com, the exchange most closely related to Bitcoin Diamond, according to this Medium blog.

  3. Compromised Wallets: While the project may in fact work, the wallets are third-party software and may be unsafe. If it is absolutely necessary, only use an empty wallet, and then never use it again, as it may be compromised. This threat is compounded by scam coin splitting services:

The Slack chat for Bitcoin Diamond is gaining speed, but it is best to avoid clicking on online wallets or other links, even if they are deemed OK by the community.

Right now, mining Bitcoin Diamond is having issues, and block production is a big unknown- so it is best to wait until the blockchain is established, as a new and slow blockchain may not work through transactions fast enough. Sending to exchanges without the necessary transaction confirmations may also be a nuissance, even with a working blockchain.
