Case Cryptopia: Scam Exit or Real Hack?
Cryptopia have been hacked at 14th January 2019. At official announcement they say that they “suffered a security breach which resulted in significant losses”. They have contacted New Zealand police and working together with their High Tech Crimes Unit to find responsible persons which done that. Is that really a case, or there is something else behind it?
Today we got news that maybe it is not like the official statement says. For now, it is almost sure that we have two big transactions worth a $3.6 milion combined. One transaction worth $2.4 million in Ethereum, and other one worth a $1.2 million in less known cryptocurrency called Centrality (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/centrality/). It is interested that the second one is actually NZ based coin, like Cryptopia is.
NZ Police updated details about this case at their official website where you can find more about this: http://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/update-investigation-involving-cryptocurrency-company
