Fake Monero (XMR) Site Surfaces, Scams Unsuspecting Enthusiasts

Different sites claiming to be offering Wallet to Monero (XMR) HODLers have surfaced on the internet, with patronisers of the sites claiming they usher the same wallets to unsuspecting users. This is coming after Monero is trying to jump all hurdles and become more relevant in the cryptocurrency space.

The discussion first surfaced on Reddit, and different users have visited and registered on the platform, surprisingly, they were given the same wallet.

According to a Redditor who warned newbies in Monero (XMR) group, the same wallet is given to users, and those who pay into a single account, instead of the supposed personal account.

“He said: Please be aware that monero-xmr.com monero-xmr.info is a straight up scamsite. a) you can register a “wallet” there. You need to give your email and a password. Obvious phishing attempt. b) the “wallet” created is always the same: 5BX3JUfX9KJTRYZMArAA4DiVaehfkJgAgqfM93WVKHM6T7J2PPnoQvjXqrT3anyZ22j7DEE74GkbVcQFyH2nNiC3gT9GhA. Several people are mining to that wallet on supportxmr.com and possibly on other sites as well…”

Another Redditor also said: “You need to give your email and a password. I signed up with email address “[email protected]” and password “password”. Sure enough, my address is 45BX3JUfX9KJTRYZMArAA4DiVaehfkJgAgqfM93WVKHM6T7J2PPnoQvjXqrT3anyZ22j7DEE74GkbVcQFyH2nNiC3gT9GhA. Several people are mining to that wallet. That’s surreal. They know what mining is but they don’t know what a wallet is!

A third redditor as well confirmed: “I just did this with the credentials “[email protected]” as the email and “intiharedin1” as the password and the address is indeed 45BX3JUfX9KJTRYZMArAA4DiVaehfkJgAgqfM93WVKHM6T7J2PPnoQvjXqrT3anyZ22j7DEE74GkbVcQFyH2nNiC3gT9GhA. What the fuck. We need to get this site deleted.”

To confirm the assertions, I personally checked into the platform with a nonexistent email: [email protected], and I was given the same wallet: “45BX3JUfX9KJTRYZMArAA4DiVaehfkJgAgqfM93WVKHM6T7J2PPnoQvjXqrT3anyZ22j7DEE74GkbVcQFyH2nNiC3gT9GhA”

Different commentators pointed that there are different fake websites claiming to be giving people wallets, at the end, there funds are carted away.

According to Whois.com, the registrant of the website is one Richie Gonzalo, who possibly resides in Philippine, he provided his phone number to be +63.917825855, with [email protected], as his email.

Monero today is not doing very fine, especially in some days back. The cryptocurrency started nose-diving on the 3rd May, 2017, after rising to around $250 last week.
