BTC does certainly have issues with fees (thanks core) but a 5 dollar fee? That is way, way, way too high, even considering the mempool size.

the transaction contains multiple addresses with different amounts, miners will ignore it if the fee is not attractive, plus it's being paid for by donations, so POG can afford it
Sure it might be a few more bytes and Satoshis add up but 5 bucks is a lot. The donations point is a bit weird: "ah it's just other peoples money, give as much to the miners as possible".
Clearly, because they sent it to the pot of gold.
I really don't understand why anyone would want to send anything more than the minimum into the pot. You only stand to lose.
