It appears to be a generalised market correction. People are taking profits before the new year. Most of the cryptocurrencies will recover quickly. Though I suspect Bitcoin will come under heavy selling pressure as a general panic starts among the late comers once the mass media picks up on the story. Doom, and "I told you so." Sells well at this time of year.
