Digital securities such as cryptocurrency have become the new kids on the finance block. Some believe that digitalized securities will become an imperative part of the financial market and eventually make some financial instruments and institutes obsolete.

Traditionally, when investors want to have access to different asset classes, they have to put their money in different platforms. An investor has to buy shares through a stock exchange to have access to equity in a company. If an investor wants exposure in the gold market, he or she may have to buy an ETF, an option or a futures contract. These instruments may sit on different platforms and many investors do not have access to the instruments they want to invest in. Even if one has access to them, counterparty risk could be high. When a financial institution faces liquidity issue, the investor may face many problems when trying to transfer his or her asset out from the institution.

Cryptocurrency can to solve these issues with traditional investments and democratize investment.
