Bitcoin died?!? Get a spoon! April Fools’ Day 2018, a recap.steemCreated with Sketch.

OmiseGO: O-M-forking-G!

A hard spoon, like spooning, is as fun as it sounds. Cosmos’ Jae Kwon,
who coined the term, defines it as being fundamentally consensual:
“Hard spoon: a new chain that takes into account state from an
existing chain; not to compete, but to provide broad access.”

This is intended for those interested in cryptocurrencies, but might be funny (or offensive) to other people. The cryptocurrency market needs some comical relief, even after 1 april. Here are a few of the 2018 jokes slimmed down, with links to the original post. If you want to get the full jest, you can read the originals. There are links to other websites explaining concepts the pranksters use and a few supporting gifs. If you know other examples that need mention, upvote this post and add them as comment. The rule for such comments is that it must have been posted just before or on 1 april 2018, you also need a link with proof. You can use the waybackmachine. Sometimes you need to look at different shots to find the one with the information you're after.

Bitcoin is dead, and Bitcoin Cash is indeed Satoshi Nakamoto’s real vision.

To avoid confusion, the cryptocurrency BTC will hereby be referred to
as “Bitcoin Core” or, in some instances, “Bitcoin Legacy.” As Bitcoin
Cash (BCH) is undoubtedly Satoshi Nakamoto’s real vision, Bitcoinist
will hereby refer to BCH simply as “Bitcoin.”

Goodbye Bitrefill, Hello Shitrefill!

During these circumstances we’ve found that people are more than eager
to spend coins that are not perceived as having such a “high long term
value”, also called “shitcoins”.

Crypto joke Mugs

Buy for that friend that knows nothing about crypto, but thinks they
know everything! Currently you can only pay using these shitcoins
called US Dollars etc.

IDEAS WITH MERIT

BTCC Organizing First-Ever Global March for Crypto

Enough is enough! After countless assaults on cryptocurrency by
bumbling bureaucrats and parochial politicians, BTCC is rallying the
community to stand up and fight for crypto.

Vitalik Buterin put a joke on Github Meta: cap total ether supply at ~120 million #960

In order to ensure the economic sustainability of the platform under
the widest possible variety of circumstances, and in light of the fact
that issuing new coins to proof of work miners is no longer an
effective way of promoting an egalitarian coin distribution or any
other significant policy goal, I propose that we agree on a hard cap
for the total quantity of ETH.

Actually Buterin got quite a few responses to this joke. People think it's a legit idea and so does Vitalik.

I do now believe that fixed supply is worth considering. Arguments:

  • With ASICs, PoW issuance fails at making coin distribution more egalitarian
  • With PoS, PoW issuance not needed for security
  • With rewards coming from rent+other burned fees, can have rewards without issuance

NEW CRYPTOCURRENCIES

Jesuscoin (JC) has been around before 1 april, but they deserve a mention because of their tweet.

I have great news Vitaly Buterin has joined us. Retweet
@VitalikButerin, get another 10,000 JC and let’s pass moon and get
straight to heaven!

Facebook Coin (FBC)

Facebook will be advertising the ICO on users’ Facebook feeds. This is interesting because the company recently banned all cryptocurrency advertising on its platform. At the time, its product managing director said that Facebook wanted to avoid “scams and deception”, and the decision to overlook this new rule for its own cryptocurrency has naturally raised eyebrows.

HouzzCoinzz

The worth of HouzzCoinzz fluctuates, making the currency potentially
superior to the traditional static gift card. If you buy a traditional
gift card for $100, its value remains the same. If you buy $100 worth
of HouzzCoinzz, that investment could grow to $500, $10,000 or more,
depending on market conditions.

Tumblcoin is the latest in the entirely unstable cryptocurrency
market.

The World Decentral Bank also includes a basic
income mechanism
where member nations can apply to join and receive a
share of WTF issuance on condition that they distribute it to their
citizens. The condition for qualifying as a nation is approval from
100,000 internet libertarians.

Googol

Our blockchain has neither blocks nor a chain and instead of nodes that are distributed around the world our transaction history (‘ledger’,) is
stored on our data centers, which are also distributed all over the
world! An SQL database is used as the data structure. Brilliant.”

At least humour is still alive. I wonder if you write April fools' or April fool's.
