RE: Overnight Wrap: Bitcoin Remains Bid, Ether Buying Op, Bitcoin Trader Charged and the ADF's New Cyberwarefare Unit

Thanks! No worries.

Steem Dollars are supposed to be worth $1 USD, but they are currently worth a lot more than that. The thing is, the platform still pays you out as if they are only worth a Dollar. I'll run through a couple of examples to illustrate what is taking place.

In our first example, the Steem Dollar market is behaving as the developers intended and 1 Steem Dollar = 1 US Dollar ...

You have a post that has earned $100 in rewards. Steem is worth $2 USD and Steem Dollars are worth $1 USD.

If you select the 50/50 option, you will receive 25 Steem Power and 50 Steem dollars (100 USD).

If you select the 100% option, you will receive 50 Steem Power (100 USD)

Note in the above example, there is no difference in value between the two payout options. You select your payout option based on which token you desire. If you only want Steem Power, you would select 100%. If however, you want some Steem Dollars as well, you would select 50/50.

You with me?

Now in this second example (current situation), the Steem Dollar market is not behaving as the developers intended: there is excessive demand for Steem Dollars and they are trading at a significant premium ...

You have a post that has earned $100 in rewards. Steem is worth $2 USD and Steem Dollars are worth $1.60 USD.

If you select the 50/50 option, you will receive 25 Steem Power and 50 Steem dollars (130 USD).

If you select the 100% option, you will receive 50 Steem Power (100 USD)

Note that in this second example, when you select the 50/50 option, the platform still pays you 50 Steem Dollars (even though they are worth more than a Dollar). You receive $130 in rewards, instead of the $100 worth you would receive by selecting the 100% option. In this scenario, irrespective of the token you desire, the 50/50 option is always optimal.

If you do want 100% Steem Power, you select the 50/50 option, convert your Steem Dollars to Bitcoin, convert your Bitcoin to Steem and then Power up your Steem into Steem Power. This method gives you 65 Steem Power, whereas if you had selected the 100% payout option from the outset, you would have only received 50 Steem Power.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks mate, much appreciate that.. It does make sense. I didnt really understand the 100 vs 50/50 thing. but this helps and I will pay more attention to it. Cheers!

Not a problem mate. Steem Dollars should always be worth at least one USD, so you should never lose out by selecting the 50/50 option.
