Cryptocurrency is leftwing and anarchism. It is designed to destroy the monopoly of the banks and allow individuals to contract together. Cryptocurrency is not socialism because the state is not involved. Individualist collectives are anarchism and not socialism or communism.

You're right, and I myself use "collectivist" more often in this episode for that reason.

"Socialism" is often used in broader senses, but here I'm mostly interested in the word as it represents humanity's large-scale attempts to build successful collectivist societies that incentivize individuals to work for the good of the collective. Additionally, "socialism" is sometimes defined as "the workers controlling the means of production," which has been believed to only be possible via state control. Now, we are seeing that it's possible in other ways.

(Unfortunately, the state remaining uninvolved in cryptocurrency is no guarantee. Nor is it guaranteed that an anarchist collective won't evolve into a new kind of state by some unforeseen development.)
