We did seem to be in a pretty stagnate area for a few years there about 2 where not much happened. Then along came some pretty sweet apps and new changes which honestly I think ETH owes a great deal of credit for. From that has spawn countless ICOs and ideas for new projects. As you said there will always be flaws but I feel like blockchains and developers are learning, adapting and creating better block chains and coins. These are some very exciting times.
