Clif High, the blockchain and more

What I do at the moment to bring some money into our household are deliveries for a social enterprises that sells fruit and veg on behalf of our local farmers. (I may do a post about them at some stage but today is not the reason I'm writing this post.) This post is about one of the side benefits of driving around in a van several hours a day, that being listening to podcasts.

I have a few favourites that I regularly listen to with one of them being Offplanet Radio/TV. Hosted by Randy Maugans and Emily Moyer, today they had on Clif High. For those unfamiliar with Clif, he is the programmer and owner of the Webbot, a future viewing radical linguistics database and algorithm that predict future trends based on the emotional content of language on the internet. His website is https://www.halfpasthuman.com/ In recent months he has put aside his usual reporting of the internet trends and has instead focused on the trends echoing out relating to crypto currencies and combines them in his monthly reports.

Everything discussed in their chat may not be everyone's cup of tea, but as I said in my intro post, I'm open to hearing about all experiences and ideas. But what I did find very interesting, and thought many in the steemit world may too (particularly those knew to the whole blockchain technology), was his explanation of how it works.

Here are some notes from the show which came with the video that gives an indication of what was discussed:

Crypto currencies, block chain: how it works, security; the good and bad; speculation vs. value

Fed contractors on the dark web; champions of crypto due to need to conceal transactions

A monetary store (hard assets/precious metals) vs. a true currency; the VALUE of Bitcoin is in the code and it's ability to tranmit value securely and with trusted accounting; the HASH encryption/decryption schema; the speculation aspects: an emotional response

The stability of crypto, the internet, and the power grid; vulnerabilities and strengths

Anyway, the discussion on crypto took place between 18:30 min - 38:00 min. And for those who are game, listen to the whole show as these are the types of discussions that I really enjoy.
