One of the greatest motivating factors the world has ever known is the human experience. Our goals, dreams and aspirations for a better world are all fueled by the desire to stop being where we used to be, help someone get out of there or probably never return there any more.

The difficulties in life and existence are the factors that give birth to new innovations and visions. There’s a cliché in this part of the world where I live “…when your back is against the wall, your true self would be revealed”. The greatest innovations of all times were born out of desperation and a deep desire for a lasting change. The greatest visionaries history has ever known were men and women who used to be a part of the very same problems they sought to solve.

It’s quite difficult to proffer solutions to a problem that you’ve never experienced personally. It doesn’t matter how well you’ve researched or how powerful you think your intellectual prowess is if you’ve have never been in a position where you are confronted with the same challenges; you may never really have the perfect solution. For example; I don’t expect a bachelor to do a great job at being a marriage counsellor.

The blockchain technology is one of the world’s most powerful problem-solving mechanisms. It answers to almost every immediate challenge in our immediate society because of its wide applicability. It promises trust, transparency and security; just what we’ve been looking for. I’m talking about the missing components of our societies that no centralized government has been able to successfully provide us with.

As I roam the internet, I found another mind-blowing innovation and I really would like to share with my followers. As a matter of fact, that’s the essence of the background paragraphs of this article. This project was born out of the Syrian refugee crisis that started in 2011 on the 15th of March to be precise. Families and individuals (including children) have suffered from this horrific event that tore the solidarity of the nation apart; leaving a lot of children homeless and lost. A large number of children have lost their families and by the implication of that, they have no heritage or a place to call home; a total loss of identity.

where would you go, if you can’t go home?

The war has destroyed business and organizations leaving over 13 million citizens of Syria with no choice than to survive through the provision of humanitarian services. A lot of NGO’s have tried to help with the crisis under the centralized jurisdiction. However, we haven’t seen anything so far within the decentralized model until Tykn.

Tykn is a blockchain based project that provides support to NGO’s and centralized government regarding their identity management systems as a charitable initiative. They do this by providing a cutting-edge tech-based application for the provision of maximum support to these humanitarian service groups. Tykn will create products that will aid governments with identity management as a permanent solution to broken systems like Syria. Homeless children can now have their information taken by voluntaryists from all over the world. Tykn will provide the applications that will serve the purpose of achieving better project-level metrics and the identification of the victims of lost identities.

The man behind this vision is Tey el-Rjula, a Syrian who also shares a common experience with these families and their lost children. He stated during his an interview after Tykn won the Blockchain Innovation Conference 2018 how terrible it was for him to live in a world where he didn’t even know who he was. Being a refugee, he endured a lot of hardships because of his “lost identity”. He is now pursuing a vision to solve the problem of which he used to be a victim. The sole aim is to ensure that no other children or families will have to suffer the same fate. That is how Tykn was born.

Taking advantage of the ubiquitous nature the blockchain technology, Tykn builds a safe, private and interoperable e-identity (electronic identity), authentication and trust service tools for NGO’s and governments. source

The range of this project is so wide but it can be summed up with just a single line of thought in mind.

Tykn is helping government and NGO’s help victims of war and desolation in a more effective manner.

Individuals can now freely volunteer to help with the identity management system through the Tykn infrastructure to aid governments in their process of providing for these people. The ground is open to all and fewer people will be victims of such circumstances going forward because of an innovation like Tykn in place.

If you enjoyed this article and would like to know more, Tey (the founder of Tykn) will be attending Decentralized 2018 and not just attending but he will also be speaking to an audience of over 1000 people. This will be one great event since Tey himself is a candidate of the University of Nicosia for MSc in Digital Currencies. Thank you for reading!
