Pinakion: Any citizen with political inclinations or concerns, born in Athens and of Athenian parents, could participate in the process of choosing a position. The Athenians carried a pinakion, a kind of bronze or wooden plaque with its name engraved. The Problem

All people in some way relate to another, establishing themselves in communities, strengthening human relationships both positive and negative. In these communities are established rules of coexistence and trade, constituting what is called a system of government. This system's main function is to ensure compliance with the rules of coexistence of the community. But what happens if a person does not want to abide by the pre-established norms? What happens if a person considers that he way of acting does not break the established norms, and another person claims that he does?.

This is where the judges, kings, juries and/or officials intervene. Whose function is to study the situation in question and try to mediate between the parties, to reach a verdict with Justice.

Unfortunately throughout this process, there are several stages. Starting with the choice of the people who will judge these situations of disputes, or of making important decisions. The Athenians tried to do it using chance, with the use of Pinakion and Kleroterion. And they were proud to believe that it was a fair system of choice for those important people. However, after being chosen these members could be coerced by some circumstance, to favor someone.

Establish a system of government and delivery of Justice is a bit complicated, especially because of the problems immersed in this whole environment. Speaking specifically about the situation of disputes or disagreements, where the intervention of a mediator is needed, we can talk about the following problems:

Corruption: That can be presented at the moment of choosing the judges or mediators, or it can be presented at the moment that these judges have to make a decision to judge a certain situation.

Authoritarianism: Normally imposed when the power to judge a situation or make a decision falls on a single person. It is common, in centralized applications where the owner imposes all the terms in relation to your company or organization.

High Costs: It is common that these processes are costly, when studying the net value of profit at the end of a dispute process, if it is a very low value, it results in the person giving up legal action against other.

Slowness of processes: Even if the net gain at the end of the process is sufficiently tempting to take legal action against a person or organization, it must be taken into account that they are very slow processes and that gain will also be affected by a possible devaluation in time of the money or the property in dispute.

In decentralized social networks where receiving a negative vote is something very delicate affecting our reputation and economic benefits received, either by a publication of poor quality or made with plagiarism, and also receiving negative votes for a comment with a position other than the author . Incentive System - Token Pinakion (PNK)

At the beginning of this publication, in the definition of some terms we talk about pinakion, and its use in the Athens of the past. For this reason the Kleros Token was named the same.

Before continuing I invite you to see a video where Federico Ast (CEO Kleros) speaks in a panel about decentralized applications in Blockchain in Santiago de Chile (in Spanish), where he explains that the main reason for creating a native token for Kleros. The incentive system basically works by rewarding the judges (who do not know each other, nor are they close to each other) who agree with the verdict with greater consensus, therefore the most just. And the system penalizes those judges whose decision does not agree with the verdict of greater consensus among the elected judges..

Doing this encourages an honest vote by the jury.

The incentivization system at Kleros ensures that while dispute resolution costs are low, the jurors are properly compensated to continue doing good work.
The juror system is also able to deduce good jurors from poor jurors based on the coherency of their votes.
For example, if there are five jurors, with outcome options "A" and "B". If four choose "A" and one chooses "B", then option "A" will win. In this case, the one judge who voted "B" would be considered to have voted incoherently. Although one dispute is not very telling, if a judge rules incoherently 90% of the time over 100 instances, clearly they are a poor judge and they would lose tokens.
