In the research report titled “Cryptocurrencies: Overcoming Barriers to Trust and Adoption” Imperial College's Professor William Knottenbelt and Imperial College Business School’s Dr. Zeynup Gurguc, have both proposed that so far cryptocurrencies are already playing the part as a store of value, just like other precious metals and fiat currencies.

The two researchers from Imperial College, also noted that whenever money evolved in the past, say from coril shells and other objects of value m, then to coins and notes, there had always been a reduction in payments friction. According to the researchers, cryptocurrencies could serve to reduce payments friction in the global economy.

We most certainly hope this is the case in 10 years time, or better yet, sooner.
