Tanzania’s Jamii Africa Patners with Humaniq to Provide Affordable Insurance Packages
Jamii Africa a micro-health insurance startup based in Tanzania has partnered with Humaniq to provide affordable insurance packages to the low income and informal sector of the Tanzanian economy.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding between these two parties, Jamii Africa will provide affordable health insurance services to the targeted low income population through their mobile phones.
According to reports by Jamii Africa 76% of Tanzanians cannot afford health insurance and only 4.5% of the population have health insurance. It also indicated that many take out loans from friends and family to pay for their medical bills.

Jamii Africa was launched in 2015 and currently has over four thousand (4,000) users Also, it has reduced insurance administration costs by 95% and has launched insurance policies for as low as one dollar ($1) per month. Futhermore, over four hundred (400) hospitals now accept insurance provided by Jamii Africa. The company is also on the verge of extending it operations to five (5) other African countries namely; Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and South-Africa.
