Crypto Africa: Rwandan Government To Use Blockchain Technology to Trace a Precious Metal

This is Cryptocurrency and Blockchain enthusiast once again with yet another update on Cryptocurrency and Blockchain adoption in Africa.
It was interesting to find out how the Rwandan government is working on improving mining of Tantanum. The Rwandan government has decided to use blockchain technology to track the supply chain of Tantalum.
Tantalum is a rare, hard, blue-gray, lustrous transition metal that is highly corrosion-resistant. It is part of the refractory metals group, which are widely used as minor components in alloys. The chemical inertness of tantalum makes it a valuable substance for laboratory equipment and a substitute for platinum. Its main use today is in tantalum capacitors in electronic equipment such as mobile phones, DVD players, video game systems and computers.

Rwanda is the world's leading producer of tantalum and the country's government has partnered with a United Kingdom based blockchain startup named Circulor to trace the mining of tantalum in Rwanda. Circulor will offer a supply chain tracking system built on the Hyperledger blockchain technology system. This partnership aims are increasing the production of Tantanum in the country.
According to Douglas Johnson-Poensgen, the CEO of Circulator, Circulator will record all the production stages before consumer electronics like phone and laptop reach the consumers. He also added that the blockchain will ensure that non ethical materials do not enter the supply chain.
The Rwandan minister, Francis Gatare, who also doubles as the CEO of mining, petroleum and gas board announced this blockchain initiative and called it "New and Innovative Mineral Traceability solution"
