The social ladder does it matter?

Some people think the social ladder matters a lot and some people think it doesn't matter at all. The people that think social ladder matters say that people that say that the social ladder doesn't matter want to climb the social ladder but are afraid they can't do it. They also say that the social leather determines how you feel about yourself, how you perceive yourself. I think to some degree this might be true but if the social ladder doesn't matter to you it doesn't determine how you feel about yourself. Maybe these people that say the social ladder does matter can't imagine that it wouldn't matter to someone, because it matters so much to them. And I think the social ladder is really relative to your culture, subculture and personal desires.
