A Technoskeptic's View of Crypto

in #cryptocurrencies7 years ago (edited)

During this small break in my studies, I open up coinmarketcap.com and I begin to think about all that these recent skyward coin-price explosions entail. Everyone likes to talk about the amazing technical and societal effects of crypto. However, we must not forget the bad things associated with crypto adoption, something that I feel isn't spoken about enough. I'm not talking about the FUD that every corporate spokesperson feels the need to spread. I am talking about the problems that are relevant to us, the believers, those with gigantic hopes that assume crypto's technical soundness. And while I can honestly say that I believe the future is so bright that I gotta wear shades, I have also begun to worry about the negative effects that will be seen as we transition from one form of currency to another.

Some interesting crypto-skepitc posts

** NOTE: Although I am simply not woke enough to believe that bitcoin was predicted back in 1980 and that the current 1% is using it as a skapegoat to implement their one-world currency/plan, I'm too risk-averse to dismiss it too.

Also, on a less-paranoid note, there is the very-real problem of dealing with rapidly-devaluing fiat, and all the ways that this will induce instability in our society. There are many things to worry about, and one of them is certainly welfare, national security, insurance, agriculture subsidies, etc. The replacements for these systems need to be built now, for soon enough Bitcoin might be tested by a financial collapse, only to be rejected because it wasn't ready.

We have to be ready for this to happen. We have to be ready to do a better job than all the governments out there, and we have to give a good service to all the bank-refugees. If crypto is able to thrive in this scenario, the government will not have the opportunity to issue their own currencies, controlled by them and thus as undesirable as the current dollar. Governments are very capable of controlling new technologies and using them against their citizens to achieve order and control, both of which are necessary conditions for government's survival.

Encryption and cryptocurrencies have been the greatest sources of individual freedom in history. These are the tools we must use to build a better future, where transparency and decentralization fundamentally change the way financial institutions operate. Although these will make the systems fundamentally less corruptible, it doesn't ensure that the appropriate systems will exist to support people's problems. This is where we must come in. Join me in my effort to make sure these systems exist. I have no idea how to do this yet, but I am confident that, if we act together, nothing is impossible.

IN CRYPTO WE TRUST
Peace out everyone
